A bit about me:
I have served on the Lake County Board & Forest Preserve District Board since 2018. I am a mother and author. I grew up a half hour away from where I now live in Hawthorn Woods, the middle child of an accountant and an at-home mom who earned her college and graduate degrees while raising us.
I went to Lake Forest College on a partial scholarship and work-study program, then earned a graduate degree in creative writing while waitressing and also reporting for the Journal & Topics newspapers, where I covered school board and city council meetings across the suburbs. My life-long interest in government led to meaningful work as an aide in the Minnesota Senate, communications director for a gubernatorial candidate, and as an organizer of a nonpartisan, grassroots group that promotes civic participation.
In 2014, I was diagnosed with a high genetic risk for cancer and underwent preventive surgeries. The following year, in an effort to fulfill a lifelong dream, my family and I moved to five acres in Lake County to be closer to nature. We have spent the past several years rehabilitating the land, cutting down buckthorn, preserving oaks, and planting native wildflowers.
I hope to earn your support. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at jessicaforlakecounty@gmail.com.
